Christmas Eve Special: How To Make The Most Of Time Off

24th December 2018 Off By Guest Blogger

As SmartWorkers, we are always trying to find ways to increase productivity whilst improving our health and well-being. We believe that work should be measured on output instead of time spent at the traditional desk. That being said, it is important that you make the most of your time off to ensure you are fully recharged for the New Year. Christmas is a very special time for families all over the world and should not be compromised by work.

Here’s our advice on how to make the most of your time off over Christmas:

  1. Offline means offline: Many employees nowadays operate two phones. One for work and one for personal use. If that is the case, leave your work phone turned off and put it out of reach. If it is a case that you share one phone between the two, make sure to sign out of your work emails and LinkedIn. Delete work related apps if necessary. We all know how tempting it can be to click into one if it is sitting there looking at you and you will never enjoy a proper break if you are clicking in and out of work emails!
  2. When you’re there, you’re there: Lots of us make arrangements to meet up with friends and family for a meal, Christmas drinks or a few minced pies. While it is nice to get a picture to remember the occasion, leave your phone in your bag therafter. There is nothing worse than making the effort to meet up with friends to catch up and a large chunk of time is spent stuck on your phone! Your friends and family are there. They are present. Social Media, is not and ought not to be a priority.
  3. Take time off for you: The festive season is undoubtedly a very exciting time, getting to catch up with friends that you have not seen in donkeys years. But do remember that Christmas is a time for you to recuperate too. If you are vising relations on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, make sure to leave Wednesday as a day for you to relax. Have a lie in, make breakfast, light the fire, watch Christmas movies and order in. There is no time quite like it during the year to recuperate. And you deserve that!

By organising your time cleverly, you will make sure that you are heading into January refreshed, energised and ready to give it your all! SmartWorking is all about making the best use of time, and that includes allowing time to take care of yourself too.

Going to log off, light a Christmas Candle, have a slice of Yule Log & watch a Christmas Movie!

Happy Christmas Eve from all of us at Team Abodoo 🙂Â
